ROOTS, SHOOTS & TIPS

Mohawk Valley Bonsai Club  -  Sep 2010

August report – treasury balance is $853.27.  An updated membership list was distributed to those in attendance. Approval  was given for the printing of club brochures using an earlier one designed by Susan Martin in 2007. A reprint by G. W. Canfield & Son in Utica offered a good price. We will get 50 colored copies and 100 black & white.

A discussion was held concerning how the refreshments for meetings will be provided and paid for. Tom M. suggested we try the system used by the Mohawk Hudson group whereas a volunteer ‘host’ provides the refreshments and that a list of hosts signs up for several monthly meetings in advance. This was approved and it was also noted that if a ‘host’ is unable to attend his/her assigned meeting date it can be swapped with another host on a different date.  Jo A.  volunteered to host for our next meeting – Oct 9th .  Other volunteers are Brad M. for Nov, Ruth H. for Jan and Nancy K. for Feb.

NO MEETING IS PLANNED FOR SEPTEMBER – due to the North American Bonsai Symposium in Rochester and the Fall Bonsai Shows in Saratoga and Liverpool.

Our program for Oct 9th is a discussion on literati style bonsai by Tom M. Mark your calendar – Sat. 12 noon (preceded by a short business meeting)  at the U.U. Church, 10 Higby Road, Utica.   Bring a tree for show – particularly a literati or prospective literati candidate. Bring a friend (prospective new club member). You may also bring a donation for the raffle table.

Nov 13th – same time & place Nancy K. program on kusamono & ikebana.  Watch for more details.
